A COMMENT to LA PRENSA of BOLIVIA, 15th November 2006
The drugs – legal, illegal and natural plants-drugs – have become a conflictive issue, which supports a debate well agitated, confused and inconclusive, with opinions pro and against, which feeds an unquenchable fire, trapped in a tunnel with no apparent way out, from different perspectives in every corner of the globe.
It seems that hope is lost, when some business men thoughtlessly overlook ethical criterias for their own enrichment, sacrificing to market business any victim indiscriminately.
It’s apparently incredible – but the evidence is there – that,one decide to name Cocaine an energy drink just to increase sales’ success, playing with the name generically and incorrectly attributed to one of the most popular drugs.
According to the article that drink, belonging to the family of the famous Red Bull, is supposed to contain three times more caffeine, being potentially harmful to the human body.
In this case I think that not only multiple irregularities can be detected, but also a real crime, as far as an immoral behavior, lack of care for people’s health, a subtle deception played on names-symbol.
The article mentions that Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of the USA doesn’tt control the energizers, considered dietary supplements and not food; I wonder if this is correct, since the population finds at hand some true energy-producing bombs, dangerous to human health, due to their high content of stimulants; therefore they should be more than controlled, perhaps by a specifical Entity; in fact the new drink Cocaine got to the sale just taking advantage of the fact that the energizers are not controlled.
Getting back to the sacred green Coca, one cannot ignore that the attribution of the name Cocaine to a product which has nothing to share with the Andean leaves constitutes an additional, overt and excessive cultural and natural attack, frankly unpunished in front of Mankind.
The press performs its duty by spreading news, but in cases like the one under consideration it would be appropriate to guide and orient the readers’ reflection; it’s a matter of fact that the advertising and marke’attraction sound much stronger than any sense of health and ethics, especially for the children and young ones.
It’s desirable that everybody will catch the importance of acting and reacting, in order to put a stop to the continuous devastation afflicting the Nature and the Culture, both cradle of Peoples, in these times of winding and tiresome journey for Humanity.
It’s time to get on the road, as taught by the Andean People, to return to the cultural standards of the origins, recognizing the ontological ties of all living beings, under the sacred symbols holding the ranks of Life, as the green Goddess of the Andes which, in detriment of mistreatment and senseless attacks, worshipped as an ancestral deity, will soon become part of the daily food for all the Andean communities, because gradually the green products with Coca will come up, initially from a simple home cooking or a popular group, without too much needs, without the millions of dollars of none … just with the sacred green Coca and the self-determination of its People.
The irresponsible businessmen of the profit at all costs will stand as a living proof of the veracity of Kyana Chuyma prophecy, reported in the Andean legend, because in their hands the sacred Coca becomes an instrument of madness and death…
